Round 937

We rushed David to the ER on Friday afternoon. He was breathing about 80 times a minute ( 20 is normal) and had a oxygen sat of 77 (normal for him is and 92%, most healthy people are 99-100). He was very sick, and his labored breathing was the scariest thing I have every watched. He was absolutely miserable and had no way of communicating that to us except through crying, which made his breathing worse.

The people in the ER were great. The were quick to start treatment, get him on Oxygen, and to get an IV started. Because this is his 2nd hospitalization in 10 days, he has very few good veins left, but the nurse got his IV on try #1! (Praise God), she even drew blood work before she started fluids-which is wonderful. The doctor wanted to get blood cultures so David had to be stuck 2 more time, which was not a good idea-now there are 2 less possibilities for IVs. Oh well.

I was at the hospital all day yesterday while my mom worked and it looks like I will be there some this afternoon. I met a few interesting people! (More on that later.) Having David live at home with all of his needs seems like the only way to do it, but the people at the hospital treat us as if we are saints or something! Its so weird to me-there really has never been a question that he lie at home. Yes it is hard work, and yes it is very stressful and tiring. But since this hospitalization I have realized that we provide him the best care and I couldn't handle it if we didn't have daily contact with him and his needs. It is difficult thing.
