Viruses and Spyware
When left to her own devices, it is a guarantee that my mother will download and/or open any pop-up window that come on the screen during her computer use. So I think I will be spending most of the morning and maybe some of my afternoon cleaning up the computer. There must have been 1800 spyware files on here and several million adware programs. No wonder I feel like I am using the slowest computer on earth when using the desktop. This should speed things up.
I used to think that AOL was a HUGE waste of money after we got cable access and had to pay both. So I called to cancel our account. Of course then you get transferred to the "used car salesman with out cars to sell department" and they talk you into keeping AOL because of all of the great new feature offered to broadband users. Virus protection, spyware protection, 2 more screen names, and up to a billion computers can be logged on from your account at a time. AND then Steve tells me about the price. This is the best- 2 free months and then 9.95 after that. I was glad and since I started using the virus scanning and spyware/pop-up protection, it seems worth it. Especially if it saves me from having to replace yet another hard drive!
